Matcha Genki

Brand Story

At the end of 2024, life took a new turn—a new beginning in Japan. A land where ancient tradition meets quiet strength, and where wellness isn’t rushed, but rooted in everyday life. It was here, in the sacred hills of Uji, Kyoto—the birthplace of Japan’s finest matcha—that I discovered something truly powerful: matcha. Not just a tea. But a ritual of presence, a source of healing, and a way to glow from within.

The Magic of Uji

Uji is not just a place — it’s a spiritual home for matcha. For over 800 years, this region has produced Japan’s most celebrated green tea. The misty air, rich soil, and centuries of craftsmanship create matcha that is:
·  Vibrant in color
·  Rich in umami
·  Smooth and never bitter
From Zen monks to modern tea lovers, Uji matcha has supported focus, clarity, and calm energy for generations.

A Thought of Home

As I stood among the tea fields of Uji, I thought of Sri Lanka — my home.
A country with its own proud tea culture, known for bold Ceylon tea and rolling green estates. We grow tea. We drink tea. It’s part of who we are.
But matcha — this whole-leaf, nutrient-rich, meditative green powder — remains unfamiliar to many back home. And I knew then: I wanted to share this.

The Birth of Matcha Genki - 抹茶元気

Matcha Genki was born from that moment of connection.
A bridge between two islands, two tea cultures, and one purpose:
To help people feel genki — the Japanese word for vitality, wellness, and spirit.
Matcha (抹茶):
Finely ground green tea powder made from shade-grown leaves, known for its vibrant color, rich umami flavor, and deep wellness benefits. It’s not just tea — it’s a ritual.
Genki (元気):
A beautiful Japanese word that means health, energy, vitality, and spirit.
When someone says “Ogenki desu ka?” they’re asking: “Are you well in body and soul?”
We personally visit the matcha farms in Uji, handpick our teas, and ensure every tin we bring to Sri Lanka carries the soul of Japan, with the warmth of home.

Let’s take a moment each day - To pause. To breathe. To sip.To feel the glow within.
